The Elliott Family Go that Extra Mile….

The Elliott family, comprising of John, Susie, Mike and Jenny completed a 5k fun run in their home town of Bromley on Sunday 19th April, raising the amazing amount of £1067.50. A friend watched with their daughter Katie, who has Niemann-Pick Type C. In July, the girls also completed the Asics British 10k in London, raising over £200  Here, Susie Elliott tells us all about it….:

“The girls had put in plenty of training determined not to be beaten by the boys; who needless to say had done nothing.  John did a quick sprint around our living room before leaving to do the race and Mike had a crashing hangover due to too much partying the night before!

It was a beautiful sunny morning with plenty of spectators to cheer us on the way. The starter pistol went off and the girls were flying, the boys slower began to catch up and then overtook us much to our fury.  However all was not lost, the girls stuck to their tactics and pacing themselves passed the boys and ran for the finishing line beating them by two minutes!!  Team Elliott performed well in their first ever race. At this point Jenny and I entered the ASICS British 10k London Run, due to take place in July, so our training continued.”

“On the day of the Asics British 10k in London, my daughter Jennifer and I woke bright and early reaching London about an hour and a half before the race began.  This was in order to be in the front runners as there were 27,000 all heading for the start line.

Jenny and I were really nervous and wondering why we'd put ourselves forward for this event.  However everyone was really friendly and it was lovely seeing all the different charities represented.

The sun came out and we were off supported by a wonderful crowd cheering us on; live music was playing and we were determined to get round in a good time. 68 minutes later Jenny and I crossed the finishing line holding hands.  We were thrilled at our achievement and even whispered 'perhaps a half marathon next'!”
